Recently I tried to start VirtualBox on my Windows 11 with an AMD chip, but it failed to start the virtual machine with an error message saying "VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available on your system." This post will show you how to enable virtualization for AMD chips on Windows.

Check if Virtualization is Enabled

You can check if virtualization is enabled on your AMD chip by opening "Task Manager" and going to the "Performance" tab. Look for "Virtualization" in the CPU section. If it says "Enabled," then virtualization is already enabled. If it says "Disabled," you need to enable it in the BIOS.

Enable Virtualization in BIOS

To enable virtualization for AMD chips, you need to access the BIOS settings of your computer. The steps may vary depending on your motherboard manufacturer, but generally, you can follow these steps:

  1. Restart your computer and press the key to enter BIOS setup (usually F2, Delete, or Esc).
  2. Look for the Advanced or CPU Configuration section.
  3. Find the option for SVM Mode or AMD-V and enable it.
  4. Save the changes and exit BIOS.
